Mountaintop Masterpiece with unparalleled Views 7070 Sulphur Mountain Road, Ojai California
|
Gracefully perched on top of Sulphur Mountain in Ojai, California, this
newly built Spanish style home exudes a refined elegance while nestled
in a naturally rugged and private setting. Surrounded by stunning
panoramic views of the mountains and ocean, this unique home
commands attention from every angle and boasts 109 acres of ridge
top grassland with clusters of California oak. This unsurpassed view
offers a vantage point high above the Pacific ocean overlooking the
Channel Islands as well as vast views of southern California open space
stretching from Malibu across vast ranch lands, the city lights of
Ventura and Oxnard, over the pacific ocean to the Channel Islands,
reaching as far as Lake Casitas and North over the mountains.
The main house offers over 7,200 square feet, and over 4,000 of
developed terrace for unparalleled indoor/outdoor living. The main
house is designed in an authentic period Spanish colonial mission style
with a broad range of accents by world renowned artist and craftsmen.
The structure is built with 10” hand-split white limestone walls, hewn and
carved West Coast Douglas fir beams with a double layered clay tile
roofing with exquisite detailing and finishes. Decorative custom made
copper rain catchments adorn the eaves and downspouts.
Upon approach through the Mediterranean landscape one reaches the
entry courtyard through a hand forged iron gateway by renowned
blacksmith Robert Lairison. At the entry stands a 4-story campanile bell
tower with a domed roof covered in cobalt glass tile and ribbed with
white limestone. The tower is accessible through the gateway up three
floors to a viewing platform with 360 degree views.
The Oceanside courtyard is a pathway of hand cut sandstone pavers
with thyme and other fragrant plantings continuously planted in the
joints between stones. Raised limestone planters along side the
building are planted with ornamental flowering and highly fragrant
plants. A 3-tiered stone fountain adorns the front entry and the view of
the ocean.
The entry portal is formed by four way arches of thick white limestone
with hand split deep red juniper. The front door and frame are hand
carved from 3 ½” thick Honduras mahogany with a grill of iron vines and
flowers by master craftsman Peter Kovatis.
The interiors are finished in a superb diamond trowel plaster with a
hand rubbed German beeswax finish with dye colors used throughout
history in Spanish colonial structures. The voluminous ceilings are
masterfully constructed of split cedar logs over hand hewn Douglas fir
beams, further enhancing the homes warmth and grace. Throughout
the home the floors are lined with both travertine limestone and
beautiful wide plank hand drawn pecan wood flooring. The chef’s
kitchen offers top of the line appliances and features French doors
leading to an outdoor entertaining courtyard and BBQ area, and is
adorn with hand painted Italian tiles.
Completing this 4 bedroom estate is a private entrance servant
quarters, a zero edge 75’ elliptical pool, an 8’ in-ground spa, and a
6,000 square feet barn being renovated for agricultural processing and
equestrian stalls.
